I guess you are right in that I don’t imagine Jesus would be overwhelmed with joy by people not believing him (nor do I think he would be too happy if everyone practised much of what gets called “Christian” these days). However, I do think Jesus would have us build a society in which no one is forced to believe something; or is excluded, ignored, or limited because of what they (don’t) believe. I find it hard to believe Jesus would have us establish yet another social group in which we think we are all better than everyone else.

I seriously doubt that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who urged his followers to “Go ye into the world and preach gospel to every creature,” would likewise encourage those followers to “celebrate religious diversity.”
