Who am I?

Draw_Me_The_World_by_stickersticker I love pointing out constellations to friends on clear nights and explaining the wonders of the universe beyond. I love to gasp at the beauty of the Milky Way and imagine what it will be like to explore its secrets and wonders up close.

I love the sounds of cicadas on hot summer evenings, or the exhilarating accomplishment of a ferociously difficult trek, and even the friendly flies that welcome me to the bush. I like to use my trusty Barmer foldaway hat as a pillow, and taking awesome photos from curious angles, and drinking hot chocolate to relax at the end of a hard day.

I constantly ferret out bits of useless information, like quotes by Jacques Ellull, and then repeat them when no one really needs to know them. I like to make flash games in action script (though I don’t get to do it often) or solving problems that actually mean something to someone and aren’t just dam Sudoku puzzles.

I enjoy shooting hoops whilst letting my imagination wander onto some science fiction adventure. I’m cheeky enough to say that the scar through my left eyebrow is from a crocodile attack, rather than a school bully. I love the sound of summer storms pounding on tin roofs.

I like buying people terribly appropriate gifts (often as gags) but never on their birthday or for Christmas. I like being the cheeky one in team sports, and movies that make me think. I love writing parables, listening to music, and the ‘labels’ comic below by http://www.reverendfun.com

I love eating a meal as a community together and talking about all the bits in the bible we don’t understand or the pastor’s sermon points we struggle to believe. I love the desperate prayer of people with nothing left to lose. I love telling people that God loves them especially when they don’t believe it.

I believe in kindness and forgiveness to our enemies and like to write emotional things about the myths of violence and consumerism. I love how true justice takes the form of compassion and how close we are to ending world poverty. I enjoy buying meals for homeless people who are high on crack and probably telling me fantasies but need a friendly face anyway.

People call me a ‘soldier’ because I say some radical things about the church and society and becoming a fool like Christ but in many ways I am just a broken hypocrite like everyone else because I don’t practise everything I preach. I believe in resurrection, and the power of God to make dead people come alive again because God came alive again.

I believe every single sentence at http://www.friendofmissional.org/

I don’t know what I think about every little theological argument but I do know that Jesus seemed to set a pretty good example of what I want to be about (thus my religion in facebook: “red letter Christian”). He also provided the means and an invitation to follow. Sometimes the path gets dark and narrow so I need to call out to him, to hear him, so I know which way to turn (like a game of Marco Polo).

100_jpg I dream of a world without money. I dream about a world without poverty, or racism, or violence, or fear of fellow man. I dream of vulnerability and complete, heart-felt know-ing of the love of God. I dream of churches without pews because you can’t dance in pews. I dream of laughter and using joy to defeat Satan and having feasts to celebrate God’s accomplishments.

So that’s me – Adam, a supposedly ENXP of Brisbane, Australia. But who are you? You don’t need to know who I am. I need to know who I am, and I wrote this for me, not you.

Since you’re at least as interesting as I am I’ve added this form to the bottom of the page which you can contact me with (it sends me a spam-filtered email). I don’t expect any of you to write a message like this one. (How many people spend hours each day on the train with their laptops at the ready?) Usually they’re along the lines of “nice blog” or “you’re wrong to question everything come and join my denomination”. Hopefully this little brain dump will make this form more interesting.

So type away…
